Carbon steel types include low, medium and high carbon content steels whose chemical composition is defined in broad ranges. Low-carbon steel has 0.30% or less carbon; medium-carbon steel has 0.30%-0.60%; and high-carbon steel has 0.60%-1.00% carbon content.

Good mechanical resistance and heat-treatability. Sports good resistance when major conformation stresses are required, and good end-product hardness levels. Also used in the gauge-making process.

Small-thickness springs under low demand and wear-resistant farming tools; high-resistance wheels.
